Chapel of the Four Children

The Chapel of the Four Children at First Baptist Church of Englewood serves as a living memorial to the memory of the four little girls tragically cut down in their youth. On September 15, 1963, during the time of the great Civil Rights Struggle, those innocent children were the victims of the racist bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, as they attended Sunday School. Several years later on Sunday, October 23, 1966, the Chapel was dedicated in their memory. In 1972, The First Baptist Church, Chapel of the Four Children Scholarship and Education Fund was established for the purpose of encouraging and assisting deserving high school seniors who exhibit need, be it academic or economic in their pursuit of higher education.
